Growing up, I read a lot of fiction, and while I read, I would always have music playing on a boombox. Listening to the music made the narratives feel real to me. Everything had a theme. Every character was preceded by an auditory cue; every event had a thrilling track to accompany it. The best part was that any time I listened to those albums, the music would immediately transport me back to that book, often to an exact chapter or page. The power those albums had to shape narrative is what sparked my love for music in storytelling. That passion brought me first to musical theater, where I enjoyed the possibilities of storytelling through song, but nothing lit me up like hearing the huge orchestral themes of films like Indiana Jones, Jurassic Park, and The Incredibles, or the offbeat intricacy of 30 Rock, American Beauty, or Edward Scissorhands. So I moved to LA to pursue film scoring, and it was a good idea. I started out by assisting a few composers and writing for anyone who would let me, which led to my current job writing for Veggie Tales: Around The House. When I’m not composing for TV or short films, I also teach piano, run a Youtube channel, work in a homeless ministry, and music direct an original musical starring children with autism.
